Practice Objectives

Construct modular visual worksheets and combine them into a unified, interactive executive dashboard using dashboard containers, filter actions, and linked highlighting.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Connect to MV_Sales_Clean.xlsx.
  2. Build Sheet 1: Sales Trend using Order Date (continuous month) on Columns and Sales on Rows.
  3. Build Sheet 2: Regional Map mapping State / Province with filled geographic polygons shaded by Profit.
  4. Build Sheet 3: Category Breakdown displaying horizontal bars of Sales broken down by Sub-Category.
  5. Click New Dashboard icon at the bottom. Set dashboard canvas size to Automatic or Fixed Size (1200 x 800).
  6. Drag Sales Trend into the top half, and split the bottom half between Regional Map and Category Breakdown using horizontal layout containers.
  7. Configure the Regional Map sheet as a filter: click the small funnel icon on the map container (Use as Filter).
  8. Test the interaction: clicking a State on the map should instantly update both the trend line and category bar breakdown.
  9. Publish to Tableau Public or save as packaged workbook [your initials] TableauDashboard.twbx and submit.
